FACTORY LABOURER

Title

Doorpac is currently seeking a reliable and motivated Factory Labourer to join our team on a casual basis (38 hours per week). This hands-on role is based in our busy workshop in Somersby (NSW) and involves a variety of tasks including door assembly, machine operation, sanding, painting preparation, general labouring, and assisting in dispatch.

 

We're looking for someone who is physically fit, safety-conscious, and able to work well in a team environment. Prior factory or trade experience is an advantage but not essential—training will be provided.

Responsibilities: 

  • Pick and pack door hardware and door seal orders, which involves collecting products and getting them ready for dispatch
  • Receive completed doors from production and prepare for dispatch (strap on pallet and wrap where required)
  • Serve trade customers and assist them with loading goods
  • Assist Logistics Coordinator with preparing deliveries, including loading delivery trucks
  • Check incoming goods against invoices and inspecting them to ensure they are free of damage
  • Unloading delivery trucks and unpacking the contents of packages
  • Use warehousing machinery, such as forklifts, to lift, place and remove items on high shelves or racks
  • Sort items and place them in the correct location on shelves or in bins
  • Comply with safety regulations to ensure a safe work environment
  • Must be a team player. Help out sanding , labelling, painting doors, loading and unloading of doors and timber.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy work area
  • Quality: Check doors to make sure they comply with Doorpac quality standards.
  • Able to use hand tools, power tools, and operate lifting machinery safely when required.
  • Work safely and efficiently in a fast pace environment following OHS standards.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Forklift ticket

  • Ability to follow instructions both verbally and written
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and process warehouse documentation, such as shipping invoices, picking lists and bills of lading
  • Forward thinker. Using initiative to maintain production flow.
  • Ability to lift, move, load and unload heavy items
  • No physical restrictions and able to carry out heavy lifting and manual labour.
  • Good numerical skills

  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision and guidance
  • Flexible work hours, including overtime

Some programming experience would be preferable.

 

Position Overview:
This position offers the opportunity to operate multiple machine types, including a beam saw, 3-axis CNC machine and 5-axis CNC machine. You will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the machines at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate beam saw and CNC machines, ensuring safe and efficient production processes.
  • Program and set up machines based on job specifications and production requirements.
  • Monitor machine performance, troubleshooting and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure optimal operation.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and quality standards.
  • Comply with WHS policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a machine operator, preferably with beam saws and CNC machines.
  • Basic programming skills (G-code, CAD/CAM software experience is a plus).
  • Current forklift licence.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be generally fit and healthy with no restrictions for manual handling.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Assembly: Assemble timber doors using hand tools, power tools and air tools, following production job sheet/drawings.
  • Quality Control: Inspect components and finished products for quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Material Preparation: Cut timber and steel components as necessary to meet design requirements.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of materials and report shortages to the supervisor.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members to ensure efficient production flow and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience in assembly or production work environment. Previous experience operating forklifts and current forklift licence.
  • Skills: Proficient in the use of power tools, strong attention to detail and ability to engage in repetition work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of safe work practices.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to assist with lifting heavy materials and stand for long periods.
  • Education: Vocational training in woodworking is a plus.
